Join us for our next Terrain Talk, where panelists Ellen Picken, Carl Richardson, Daniel Lopez, and Skyler Oberst will explore how artists can translate their work into larger public projects. This conversation will cover various topics, including materials needed, tips for scaling up your work, strategies for securing deals, and the unique approaches required for art intended for public spaces. Ellen Picken | Artist | Originally from Spokane, Ellen has made rugged Ferry County her home for the past nine years. Despite her remote location, her work is showcased primarily in Seattle and Spokane, with exhibitions spanning the globe from Ecuador to Germany. Working in 2D, oil, and graphite on panels, her art is inspired by the solitude and abundance of Northeast Washington's forests. Ellen recently earned the Joan Mitchell and Vermont Studio Center Fellowship for a VSC residency. Past residencies include St. Gertrude’s Monastery (Idaho) and GlogauAIR (Berlin). Ellen has received multiple GAP Awards supporting her work, exploring her German heritage and its influence on her attraction to the grotesque and sublime. | ellenpicken.com

Carl Richardson | Artist | Carl has been a professional artist and educator for over 18 years. He currently teaches drawing, color/design, printmaking, portfolio, exhibit, and advanced design classes. Art is a way for him to give life to thoughts that he cannot or chooses not to express verbally, "because words fail, I choose paint, ink, canvas, paper, film, pen, charcoal and/or a squeegee to give a voice to thoughts, feeling and emotions within me." In 1990 he received a BS in fine arts at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University and his master of fine arts from Washington State University in 1994. Daniel Lopez | Artist | A man without roots, Daniel Lopez, born July 1st 1982, Ventura Ca, he found his home in Spokane Washington after a life long struggle with addiction. Seeking to connect to his roots and culture through his paintings and love for renaissance art. Daniel is a classically trained oil painter and has been a muralist since 2014 painting murals across the Pacific North West. | godffiti.com

Skyler Oberst | Executive Director at Spokane Arts | Skyler Oberst is the new Executive Director of Spokane Arts. With a decade of experience working with civic and community leaders in the PNW, he studied anthropology, philosophy, and religion, contributing to Georgetown's Millennial Values project and Harvard's Pluralism Project. As a Germanacos Fellow, Skyler focused on the intersection of young people, technology, and faith. He has presented at the G20 Interfaith Forum, served on local boards, revitalized the Spokane Interfaith Council, and holds leadership roles in Rotary Club 21 and the Parliament of World’s Religions. | spokanearts.org
